5 Exciting restaurants in the UK

Choosing somewhere to eat can prove a real challenge, with so many options to pick from. We know that trawling through the endless options and thousands of reviews tends to work up a bit too much of an appetite in itself.

So, how to avoid that? Forget all those reviews – we know that blu fans like to walk their own path. With this in mind, we have picked out a selection of weird and wonderful restaurants across the UK which are well worth paying a visit to. There are some experiential, some in odd locations, and some high flying options – but one thing is for sure, they all provide damn tasty food.

Dans Le Noir, London

This well-known experience involves eating in complete darkness. Dining in the dark is certainly not something to do every night, but it provides a thrilling and disorienting experience that we recommend everyone should try at least once.
Understandably, you might be wondering how it works? Diners are asked to choose one of 4 menus to be served from – one of which is predominantly meat, one fish, and another vegetarian. This gives you an idea of what you will be eating, but the contents of your meal will be a complete surprise. Pretty novel, huh? To further add to the concept of this unique restaurant, many of the waiting staff are also visually impaired. This place is unusual to say the least.

DC-6 Diner, Coventry

If you are looking for a unique venue for a meal, meeting or event, this venue in Coventry is going to surprise and delight. Far from being your average diner, this place is housed in a vintage DC-6 aircraft at Coventry Airport. This aircraft was even features in James Bond’s Casino Royale.
Appropriately enough you will find a globetrotting menu here, with a range of cuisines taken from all corners of the world to be sampled. This is the kind of airline food we can get on board with! Not only an option for dining, the venue also offers bookings for parties and other private events if you are looking for a novel venue to host an intimate event in the Coventry area.

Basement Galley, London

How does dining on a de-commissioned tube train sound for a unique experience? That’s exactly what you can do at the Basement Galley Secret Supper Club in Walthamstow.
Forget crushed sandwiches from home, this is how eating on the tube should be done. The food is of a high standard while still remaining affordable, and is mighty impressive considering the conditions in which it is prepared in the cramped café next door.
On the menu you will find a hybrid of classic French brasserie and Scandinavian flavours prepared by Chef Alec Cooper, making for a truly unique collision of cuisine and surroundings.

Thornbury Castle, Gloucestershire

If you like something a little more old school, or actually about as old school as it gets, Thornbury Castle could offer the ideal surroundings for you. You can dine in a dungeon at this historic location, which has been home to a top class restaurant as far back as 1966 and needs to be seen to be believed.
This luxury location will provide the perfect dining environment for those who like to soak up a bit if history and the food is also very high quality; making it an ideal destination for a special occasion when you want to create an unforgettable dining experience.

Pitcher & Piano, Nottingham

The Pitcher & Piano in Nottingham is a unique and truly stunning environment in which to enjoy a bite to eat. Housed in a majestic converted church, these surroundings are unbeatable with a number of towering stained glass windows which you will surely marvel at before, during, and after your meal.

The food itself may not quite be a religious experience, and its pairing with the unique surroundings makes this a very interesting dining option. An impressive place to take someone for a night out and you can get some pretty amazing photos while you are there!
