blu UK has just won Product of the Year 2015. Woohoo! At a glitzy ceremony in London, we came out top in the E-Cigarette and E-Liquid category. Here’s how it happened…
Product of the Year announced the winners on January 22 at 8 Northumberland. The awards night celebrated innovation and ingenuity for products you’d find in all aisles of the supermarket.
How does Product of the Year work?
All companies that make fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) in the UK can enter the competition. Just as long as their products show innovation in areas such as design, function and packaging.
We reckoned our e-cig kits ticked all the innovation boxes, so we submitted them for the award. Before they go to the shopper vote, a jury of industry professionals review all the entries to ensure products meet the tough innovation criteria.
Next, it’s time for shoppers to get their say. And they make their voice heard through the largest consumer survey in the UK. 10,175 shoppers took part this time round, in a nationally representative survey conducted by TNS – the leading market information group.
TNS asks shoppers what’s appealing and interesting about a range of products – everything from laundry detergent to beers, ice creams to, err, e-cigs. Products with the highest votes in each category become Product of the Year winners. Like us!
About the Product of the Year award
Product of the Year is the world’s largest consumer-voted award for product innovation. Established 28 years ago in France, the award runs in 42 countries and helps guide shoppers to find the best products on the market. And it rewards brands (like us) for quality and innovation.
Here in the UK, over 10,000 households voted for their favourite products. The Product of the Year seal is a sign of quality for shoppers. So, look out for the red logo on our winning e-cigs – the Starter Kit, Premium Kit, Pro Kit and Disposables range.
Other winners on the night included Mars® Variety Mix Mini Ice Cream for Dessert, Crabbie’s Fruits for Alcoholic Drinks and Acer Iconia One 7 for Technology.
Mike Nolan, Product of the Year’s chief executive, said: “Innovation comes in many forms and at Product of the Year we’ve seen the FMCG sector pushing the boundaries of function, design and packaging further than ever for 2015.”
Matt Cameron, blu UK’s Social Media Assistant, who attended the awards ceremony, tweeted on the night; “WE #WON Everyone at #blucigs thanks you for all your support. It’s been a wild year for us all’. And like a true professional, he even remembered to add the hashtags – even after a few champers!
