E-cigarette Battery Maintenance

Making sure that your battery is in good working order is key to any vaping experience. Without a functional battery, your e-cigarette simply won’t work, so it’s important to understand how to use your battery properly. Here we take a look at the best ways to maintain your battery.

Cleaning

As with the mouthpiece and the clearomiser, batteries need to be cleaned regularly to ensure that they are working properly. Dust and dirt can find their way onto the battery fairly regularly, especially if you carry around your e-cig in your bag or pocket, so maintenance is vital.

The terminal is the most important part of the battery from this perspective, as this is the only exposed part of the device. This means that if anything gets inside through this port, it will be nearly impossible to get it out. If something does get inside the terminal it can affect the performance of the battery.

Cleaning the terminal regularly ensures that when you screw the battery onto the clearomiser or cartridge, dust isn’t forced inside the device. The best way to clean the terminal is with a cotton bud, as this can be used to gently scoop up any debris inside the opening without the risk of harming any part of the device itself.

Holding the cotton bud like a pencil, swirl the tip around the terminal and scoop out any stray dirt. Make sure to thoroughly clean the inner walls of the terminal as dirt can often get trapped here when the battery is screwed back onto the clearomiser or cartridge. For this reason it is also a good idea to check if this part of the e-cigarette has any dirt when unscrewing the component parts.

Storage

As the previous section implies, one of the best ways to keep your battery working at full capacity is to keep any dust or dirt out of the terminal. One of the easiest methods to avoid this is to store your battery correctly. By keeping your battery in a secure place, it is less likely to accumulate any debris. Furthermore, this will also help protect your battery from any damage. The blu PLUS+™ Kits come with a handy case to help keep your e-cigarettes safe and the cases also offer storage for extra cartridges and batteries.

If you are using the blu PRO®, it is still worth finding a safe place to store your battery at home and a secure means of carrying it around with you. At home a simple solution could be to designate a particular drawer to keep it in so that you aren’t tempted to leave it lying around. Some vapers have used a glass to store their vape pen in the same way that you might store a toothbrush. When you’re out of the house, make sure that the battery isn’t left at the bottom of a bag or purse as this may lead to damage. Try to find a separate compartment or pocket that your e-cigarette can sit in by itself.

It is also worth noting that to keep your battery working properly, it should be stored away from direct sunlight and at room temperature.

Charging

It is worth making sure that your battery is well charged before any trip out as letting the battery run completely dry too often may affect how it performs. However, it is also important not to overcharge the battery. While it may be tempting to leave an e-cig to charge overnight, this can actually damage the battery. It should usually take around 4 hours for the battery to fully charge.

All blu® e-cigarettes indicate when they are fully charged, either when the tip begins flashing or when the light on the USB charger turns green. By keeping an eye on these indicators you can ensure that you don’t accidentally overcharge your battery and compromise its functionality.
